Long live Democracy!

April 24, 2010

I do not even know what democracy means but it does sound appealing in news and media. I heard about it through Internet newspapers, television and movies but my personal experiences are not that wonderful.

Every second years some clown is appointed to entertain us for a while and keep money flowing into beautiful, developed, democratic countries. I do accept that every time the clown quality surpasses its predecessor.  Keeping the tradition, current clown is the best so far we have had in the name of democracy or democratically assigned dictators.

What I love about Asif Ali Zardari is that, he is funnier that George Bush. Stuff that he comes up with, Mr Bush would not even had a clue.

Martial Law Vs Democracy

April 15, 2010

Martial law and Pakistan are two synonymous names, going hand in hand since the early years of this country. We have not seen any medal in almost any sport for a long while but I am sure we can claim a gold medal in military rule.  There are strong chances of changing name from Martial law to Pakistan law, because, this is the only sort of law that can be implemented in Pakistan.

There is not any generation who hasn’t faced at least one dictatorial era in Pakistan. I am blessed enough to be born in the era of Zia-ul-Haq and grew up in Mr Musharrafs western approved dictatorial era.

Martial Law

Since the prosecution of Zia a number of failed attempts to establish Democracy in country. In my dictionary Democracy is the time when we do not have Martial law implied on us. It does feel sort of boring, rest of the world have it, and no one really cares. Democracy is so widespread, undramatic – It does not have that appeal to it.

We are infatuated with the word ‘Martial’, it sound so dominating so macho. This obession starting since noble Brits visited this land and marked us as Martial or Non Martial. I salute the creative powers of our British guests – how the hell they came up with this idea. Then, it might not be that hard, when I was ten, I always wondered why my rooster gets beaten up and would run away from the ring before entering in it. Secretly, I wanted to kick that rooster ass, luckily he did not have any because he was a non-Martial rooster.

Another good thing about Martial law is that we take the centre stage on all international news channels and media. We love being in news, like Paris Hilton, without Martial law and Pakistan, news channels would be so damn boring.

We love wrestling in Pakistan and I had to compare two things I would have a mental wrestling between them. Martial law in red corner and Democracy in blue – crowd roar – It is not even a fight. Martial law beat the heck out of democracy – Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner on unanimous decision…

(For this post I had to go back in time and read my mind of 13 yrs old me)
